Gregg Alexander begins his seventh year coaching in the Railer program and his fourth as head sophomore coach. Gregg is remembered by many as one of the finest players to ever wear a Railer uniform. His list of accomplishments rivals that of any athlete in the school’s history. He is LCHS’s all-time leading scorer, our all-time leading free throw shooter, our all-time leader in steals, an IBCA First Team All-Stater, and a three-time first team Central State Eight All-Conference Selection. He averaged 23.7 points a game his senior year and 18.8 for a career. In ’98 he was a team leader that led the Railers to a 30-win season and a State Tournament appearance.
Alexander excelled at the Division I level as well. He was a 4-year starter at Illinois State University and remains second on the Redbirds’ all-time 3-point shooting list. Last year, Coach Gregg’s sophomores posted a record that was as good as any sophomore class in the history of the school. They compiled 22 wins, two tournament championships, and only 2 losses.
Along with coaching basketball, Gregg is also the boys track coach, and he teaches in the Physical Education department here at LCHS. He and his wife Nicole reside in Lincoln.
